11th Annual Heart of Lewisburg Ice Festival

Tons of sparkling ice art will grace downtown Market Street.  Watch the award-winning First Night Ice Carvers create a giant sculptures in Hufnagle Park.  Beautiful historic homes, tree-lined, lamp lit streets and a distinctive downtown shopping district provide the perfect backdrop to the Heart of Lewisburg Ice Festival.  Kids love ice sculptures any day–it’s art they can touch, and in the park, even sit and crawl on. The event starts on Friday with sculpting in the park and late night shopping passes.  Saturday is a great day with Ice Festival games in Hufnagle Park, the Polar Bear Plunge and The Chocolate Lovers Festival.

Support the FANTASTICALLY SUCCESSFUL Warm your Hearts-Pets in Need at Brushstrokes, 340 Market Street during the ice festival. Brushstrokes will be a drop-off site of needed items and funds for several of the local shelters and rescues.

Friday, January 31st

Noon-3 p, Ice Carving in Hufnagle Park and on Market Street. Watch the First Night Ice Carvers create a completely new sculpture in Hufnagle AND a Bucknell Bison in ice in front of the post office!

5:30 pm, A Cappella on Ice, Campus Theatre. Bucknell A.C.E.S. presents a night of music at the Campus Theatre featuring several of Bucknell’s very own a Cappella groups. Come warm up during the Ice Festival and join us in supporting Bucknell’s fully student-run international service organization while enjoying the sounds of the Bison Chips, the Offbeats, the Silhouettes and more. There will be a suggested donation of $5. All proceeds will go towards funding the B.A.C.E.S. annual service trip to the Dominican Republic. Doors open at 5:00. 7:30 pm, Szymanowski Quartet, Weis Center for the Performing Arts. One of the most exceptional international string quartets of its generation. Their sophisticated programs present a perfect balance between intellect and passion, characteristics with which the Szymanowski Quartet captivates

5-8 pm, Friday Chocolate Festival Tour—Sample delectable chocolate creations in eleven downtown businesses with a $10 wristband. Wristband purchase includes a map of all participating locations. Tour will feature chocolate creations by Elizabeth’s: An American Bistro and artisan truffles, signature brownies, and other indulgences wrapped with flowers and herbs by Fleur et Chocolat.  Saturday, February 1st

8:00-11 a.m., Pancake Breakfast, Lewisburg Club, 131 Market Street. All you can eat! Adults $6. Children 7 and under $4. Sponsored by the Lewisburg Lions Club.

10 a.m. Frosty 5K. Beat the winter blues and Run/Walk the Frosty 5k during Lewisburg’s Ice Festival. Cost $25. Registration opens at The Campus Theater, 413 Market Street, Lewisburg at 8:30 a.m. Awards around 11:00 a.m. Register online in advance for $25. Registration day of event is $30.

10-3 pm, Saturday Chocolate Festival Tour—Sample chocolate in participating downtown businesses with $10 wristband. Proceeds benefit the Donald Heiter Community Center.

10 a.m. -2 p.m. Children’s Winter Games in Hufnagle Park. FREE (Donations accepted). Sunset Rotary Club will host games in the Park for children of all ages. Snowball throw, ice fishing, outdoor birdfeeder making, snow golf and more family-friendly games are offered for FREE in the park.

11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., Sixth Annual “Frosty Kettle Chili Cook Off” Bull Run Tap House, corner of 6th and Market Streets. Sunset Rotary teams up again this year with Yuengling to bring back the “Frosty Kettle Chili Cook off!” Raffle tickets for great Yuengling prizes! Give-a-ways and door prizes throughout the day. Who makes the best darn chili? $5 to taste all the chili and YOU are the judge! To enter your chili, call Lois at 570-524-1321. Cash prizes!

1-4pm: Abstract Winter Drawing Activity at the Downtown Art Gallery, 416 Market Street. Join us at the Samek Art Gallery’s downtown location for some family-friendly art-making inspired by the wintry landscape and the works in our special exhibition “Abstraction Today.” Warming refreshments will be provided.

1-4 p.m. Lewisburg Arts Council Silent Art Auction, Barnes & Noble Community Room, third floor, 400 Market St. All items were handcrafted by artists who have been juried into the annual Market Street Arts Festival, and there will be over 125 items available. Ice Fest 2011 plunge suprise2:00 p.m. 9th Annual Polar Bear Plunge. On-Site registration begins at 12:30, St. George Street Landing.  New this year:  Register and pay easily on-line.  Early registration is $15, until January 21.   Starting January 22, registration is $20.  Keep your heat  with a Polar Bear Plunge hat, $20, available online.

4 p.m. “Wizard of Oz,” Campus Theatre.  Free showing of the new digitally remastered original film on the big screen. Please consider donating new hats, gloves, or socks to benefit the Clothes Sharing Program, a service of the Union County Food Bank.

6:30 – 10:30 p.m., Cocoa Fest, a chocolate lover’s festival for kids, at the Donald Heiter Community Center, 100 North Fifth Street. $5 per child with Chocolate Lover’s Festival tickets. $10 per child without.

7 p.m. Chocolate Festival Ball, Lewisburg Hotel, 136 Market Street. All you can eat hors d’ oeuvres, all you can sample chocolate and beveragefor $30/person. Evening also includes a silent auction, raffle and cash bar. All proceeds benefit the center’s work in the community. Tickets are available in advance only on-line at
