Lewisburg’s downtown business district, quaint, charming, historic and cool, features more than 45 independent retail stores anchored by The Campus Theatre, one of the nation’s few remaining single-screen Art Deco movie palaces, and the Barnes and Noble at Bucknell University, three storeys and 25,000 square feet of books, textbooks, gifts for book lovers and Bucknell merchandise. Full of cosmopolitan accents, downtown also features helpful, neighborly shop keepers and services long-disappeared. There’s Still A Place with a butcher (Fisher’s Meats), a baker (Elizabeth’s) and even a candlestick maker (Colonial Candlecrafters, just south of Lewisburg on Rt. 15), plus a shoemaker (Champion Shoes), watch and jewelry repair person (Antiques at 221 Market), alterations (Retrah), appliance and TV repair (Stamm’s TV and Appliance), and a BIG screen (The Campus Theatre). Where else can you go to get your favorite shoes resoled and to buy a pair of Lucky Brand jeans, a Lilly Pulitzer dress or a Vera Bradley bag in the same 3 blocks?
